Well I came accross a news article about the public release of the new operating system from Microsoft. Supposedly it is the last release before the full version in 2007. I tried the beta 2 back a couple of months ago and it was nice, but as soon as I tried to install some drivers I completely crashed the install and it wouldn't boot up! But I must say it was a very nice interface with cool looking graphics. I wonder about the compatability with my games and programs and wasn't sure about any drivers for my hardware. BUt this time it is supposed to have way less bugs, I hope. So I am going to give it a try with a separate spare hard drive I have kicking around. If you would like to try it goto the windows Vista site: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/ and sign up. I will open a new forums section for Vista soon. Now my download should be finished soon (2.52 gigs in dvd image file). Make sure that you use a separate hdd with none of the hdd's you have now connected to the computer. The beta I installed on a separate hdd before screwed up the reading of the other drives once I put back my original windows drive (see my post on Testdisk http://cyberpcfix.com/ftopict-211.html

Windows Vista Customer Preview Program
Windows Vista Release Candidate 1 (RC1)—the final major pre-release of Windows Vista—is now available through the Customer Preview Program. Once you have installed Windows Vista RC1, be sure to visit the Resource Center to download the Windows Vista Product Guide and discover more information that will help you get up and running quickly.
Note: This is beta code and should not be used in a production environment or on a primary computer in the home. RC1 is intended for developers, IT professionals, and technology experts to continue or begin their testing of Windows Vista. Before you decide to use RC1, you should feel comfortable with installing operating systems, updating drivers, and general PC troubleshooting. Some risks of using beta operating systems include hardware and software incompatibility and system instability. If you have concerns about installing this beta software on your computer, we encourage you to obtain the final release version of Windows Vista when it is available in 2007.
Access to the Customer Preview Program is limited. Once the program capacity has been reached, the program will be closed and no new orders will be accepted.

Goodluck and check back for my progress with the new Windows operating system! |
