Hi there...

I bought recently a new computer, after using it for a while, it start freezing whenever I am trying to install a program or run a game from the DVD, so I sent it to the seller for repairing twice, but they send it back to me each time saying that there was no problem at all and my brother confirm that since he was there while they test the system. Shocked

Therefore, I decided to reformat the computer and install the windows from the beginning, but the computer continue to freeze whenever I run the windows CD ("Especially when ever it reach the screen to select the setup partition")... I tried to run hardware test using Hiran's BootCD - DOS V. 8.6, but without any success.

Is it a problem of power supply or what? Confused

I really appreciate any help that I can receive. Embarassed

What kind of freeze do you mean? Like it just sits there at the screen doing nothing, or does it go blank or restart. Any drive activity.. like does it look like the drive is busy? And have you done any upgrades to the hardware, like new memory or anything. This might help us figure out what is wrong. Doesn't really sound like a power supply problem, more like memory or heating up too much. Maybe if you give some more details I or somone else on the site can figure it out.

It just stay at the same screen doing nothing, the keyboard does not respond & keep that way till I restart or shut down the system and the drive stop working (i.e. there is no light coming from the DVD Drive or sound indicating that it is still working).

As for upgrades, since this was a new system, I did not add any new components or upgrade any old ones.

Below are my computer spec:

SHUTTLE SS56G XPC

3.0 GHz Intel P4, 80 GB HD Drive, 512 MB RAM, DVD Rewriter, XP Home
56K Fax Modem,
NVIDIA 128MB MX 4000 Graphic Card,
6-Channel Audio, ICE Cooling Technology

Hope that will help Smile and Thanks for replying

Welcome to the site! I am wondering one thing off the top of my head.. Try going into bios (usually hitting the DEL key when the computer first starts) and watch your temperature for cpu for a while.. see if it goes up allot(10 degrees maybe).. You might have to reseat the cpu if it does go up allot. What kind of windows cd are you using to reinstall? Is it a restore cd or full version? You could try to test your hd disk with a bootable testing cd, most manufacturers of hard disks have utilities to test the drive. Maxtor has a good one available here: http://www.maxtor.com/portal/site/Maxtor/menuitem.3c67e325e0a6b1f62941 98b091346068/?channelpath=%2Fen_us%2FSupport%2FSoftware+Downloads%2FTo p+Downloads&downloadID=113

Just a couple of things to look for, post back with any questions and let us know how it is going!
