I just recently set up a new ftp server and was having some problems with people not being able to access the server using internet explorer.

Half of the users could log in using the address of the server by typing it into the address bar of the browser, they would get a pop up window asking for user name and password. The other half of the users using internet explorer either couldn't get past the password pop up or it just wouldn't load the directory from the server when they entered in the pass and user name. After allot of searching and trial and error I came up with a solution that seems to work almost every time...

If the user cannot access the ftp server using just the server address then you can make a custom link for them to use.
Code:

ftp://username:password@serveraddress

I'll explain a bit here for clarification. Change the username and the password parts with the actual ones they should be using leaving the ":" in between them. Then the serveraddress should just the the ending with the .com or .net or whatever your server address is.
Goodluck
