 Flash Player Fails in Windows Vista

After installing Windows Vista, I found that this mesage would be shown on some sites like YouTube:

You either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Macromedia's Flash Player.


After doing some searching I found how to fix this by using the uninstaller as explained at this Adobe website:

This detection failure is due to an incomplete installation of Flash Player. Specifically, version-dependent registry keys used by the VBScript detection are missing, such as HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ShockwaveFlash.ShockwaveFlash.8 for Flash Player version 8.


I found that Vista uses version 9 but this still worked for me.

Basically you have to unistall the player and ocx files(activeX), and also change some permissions so when you do install again it will be successful. Get the unistaller here:How to uninstall the Adobe Flash Player plug-in and ActiveX control
